An Olympic bike ride for Brussels and Hackney 26-27 July 2012
by ofthewedge
Dear friends,
On Thursday 26th July, I will mount the saddle and cycle 222 miles from my home in Brussels to my old homes of Croydon and Hackney. My reward will be a pint of Young’s Special in the Dog and Bull on Surrey Street, in Old Town Croydon.
I would like to invite you to demonstrate your support by donating to two worthy causes based in my points of departure and destination.
Le Parlement des donateurs is a non-political association which runs projects for the relief of poverty in Brussels where 40% of children live in households with no income and over 5000 residents are in a state of extreme poverty http://www.parlement-donateurs.org/Parlement_New.htm/contact_F.htm
Hackney Night Shelter is a partnership between local churches and registered charity Hackney Doorways which through hundreds of volunteers helps get people off the streets and support them when they find accommodation. http://www.hwns.org.uk/construction/
You can donate to these charities directly by following the instructions on the website; if you donate, or you intend to donate, please put a comment on this blog to say so.
Thank you
Christian

What a way to avoid your pregnancy, smooth. Will you cycle along the tunnel or do laps around the ferry?Great initiative- we’re most impressed and currently negotiating the modalities for EU funding.
Good luck and enjoy the beer. Will you be sporting some Bradley Wiggins go-faster sideburns? Have donated to the Parlement des donateurs
Bon voyage ! I have donated to the parlement des donateurs.
Great initiative, Good luck!!! Come back safe and sound for the St B day. I will make sure not to go in labour on those days. Have donated to both, but without mentioning your cycle – hope that’s fine…
Good luck Christian i niech moc będzie z Tobą !!! (Karo will explain) ;))
Thank you for your messages. Only 3 days to go – here are some more developments. A further €100 to le Parlement from a certain Portuguese benefactor. Muito obrigadoAndy L – I’ve started to grow some handlebars in honour of our WiggyPiotr – dzieki rozumiałem nawet bez zony!
Great job Christian. I pledge EUR 50 to each charity. Perhaps some of the footie crowd would be willing to match this. I know Capt. Gareth Lewis will be very supportive and keen to beat my ‘score’. Fraser
I ploughed assiduously through Flanders yesterday. It was covered in thick mist till almost 9am. The roads were straight and flattedium relieved only by the arresting market squares in the towns on route. Having got to Diksmuide for 1pm, a tasty lunch of vispotje was sloshed down by bottles of Oerbier and Ijzerbier. Progress slackened off. The road to dunkirk ferry port was unsignaled and endless. I missed the 6pm crossing but got to Dover in time for small portion of chips and 2 pints of Shepherds Neame. Heading over the North Downs now, Croydon bound for what promises to be a chavtabulpus evening. Thank you sponsors for your support.
Belated thanks to le Parlement des Donateur’s Polish and Swedish anonymous benefactors – I will transfer another EUR70 on their behalf.
belatedly but still…. have topped up the Parlement des Donateur’s account. Well done! how were the olympics?
